The Aids Discovery
AIDS is an anti-immune disease that is caused by the HIV virus. One could get it by sexual contact, injection drug use, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, occupational exposure, and sometimes a blood transfusion or organ transplant. AIDS is not the same thing as HIV. AIDS is the last stage of the HIV virus. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. Doctors began to notice this virus showing up a lot in gay men and IV-drug users in 1980/81. In 1981, it was officially identified as a new virus.
Currently, there is no cure for AIDS, and it has not stopped spreading. We do have treatments for those with the disease. These treatments work by preventing the disease from spreading. This can lead to a longer life spans of those with the disease. If those with HIV take more preventative measures, we might be able to stop the disease soon. For now, those living with HIV/AIDS are stuck with it as a work towards finding a cure.
