The culture of the 1970s is a well-known decade for many things, including the Beatles, Star Wars, Jaws, and many other things. It was a very impactful decade for the U.S. and will be remembered as the decade of the Brady Bunch and Heavy Metal.
FashionThe fashion styles went from hippie in 1970 to mod in 1972. From there, glam took over the 1974 and punk rock followed in 1977. Throughout the decade, polyester was very popular. The two big stand out things of the decade were bright colors and tight pants. Other fads were platform shoes, high cut boots, low cut pants, pant suits, leisure suits, and track suits.

MusicThe music throughout the 1970s changed greatly. In 1970, Commercial Popo was popular. Early Heavy Metal arose in 1971, followed by the famous funk jams in 1973. Punk rock took over in 1975 and hip hop in 1977. The Beatles were very popular throughout the whole decade.

InventionsThe 1970s brought some big inventions. Video cassettes and video games made their debuts in 1971 and 1972. Disposable lighters were invented in 1873, followed by sticky notes and liposuction in 1974. MRIs came along in 1977, and Artificial Hearts were invented in 1978. Inline skates and the personal computer were both invented in 1979.

Movies
Movies continued to try and stay family-friendly, but ‘R’ rated movies began to arise. Popular movies in the 1970s included some that are still well known today. Popular movies included The Exorcist, Star Wars, Close Encounters, Rocky, M*A*S*H, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Chinatown, Jaws, Taxi Driver, Annie Hall, Young Frankenstein, American Graffiti, A Clockwork Orange, Network, Kramer vs. Kramer, Patton, Dirty Harry, The Sting, The Way We Were, Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, and Towering Inferno. Overall, movies began to move away from all being family friendly and just made for children.

T.V.
T.V. shows were still trying to be overall family friendly. Popular children shows aired between 8 and 9 on Thursday nights and over the weekends. Some popular T.V. shows were The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Sanford and Son, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Welcome Back Kotter, Mork and Mindy, M*A*S*H, and Three's a Company.
